Motion Weave

Melee Integration

Patch Game Creator 2 Melee to use Motion Weave with skills, reactions, and shield responses.

Melee Integration

Motion Weave can work with Game Creator 2 Melee without stopping an active weapon-ready State. The Melee integration is optional. Projects without the Melee package do not need to install or patch anything.

Requirements

Motion Weave requires Game Creator 2. The Melee integration also requires the Game Creator 2 Melee package.

Open Game Creator > Motion Weave > Integrations. The window shows the Melee status. Select Patch to add the integration. Select Unpatch to restore the normal Game Creator 2 source files.

Standard Skills

Leave Use Motion Weave off on a Melee Skill to use its normal animation and Avatar Mask.

While the Skill plays, Motion Weave keeps the active State but does not apply its pose. The Skill animation, root motion, and transition-out can play without being overwritten. Motion Weave starts applying the weapon-ready State again after the Skill finishes.

Motion Weave-backed Skills

Enable Use Motion Weave on a Melee Skill to use a Motion Weave State as the Skill animation.

  1. Create a Motion Weave State with the attack clip in State Clip.
  2. Enable Use Motion Weave on the Melee Skill.
  3. Assign the State.
  4. Set Motion Weave Layer above the weapon-ready State layer.

The State Clip and Body Part Weight values drive the attack. Melee still controls the Skill phases, hits, cancel windows, motion warping, and transition-out.

Motion Weave composes a humanoid pose. Motion Weave does not currently support root motion for Melee Skills. Disable Use Motion Weave on the Melee Skill when the attack itself needs root motion.

Standard Reactions

Normal Melee reactions use their regular Game Creator 2 Reaction animation and Avatar Mask. While a reaction plays, Motion Weave does not apply the active weapon-ready pose. This covers normal hit, block, parry, and fallback reactions.

Motion Weave-backed Reactions

Enable Use Motion Weave on a reaction entry to use a Motion Weave State for that entry. Each entry has its own State and layer, so one Melee Reaction can have different Motion Weave reactions for different directions, power values, or conditions.

  1. Create a Motion Weave State with the reaction clip in State Clip.
  2. Open the reaction list and expand the entry you want to use.
  3. Enable Use Motion Weave on that entry.
  4. Add one or more Motion Weave States to the State list.
  5. Set Motion Weave Layer above the weapon-ready State layer.

When the entry runs, one State is selected from the list. The same State is not selected twice in a row when the list has more than one item. The selected State Clip, Body Part Weight values, and Pose Corrections drive the reaction. Melee still controls the cancel time, gravity, and transition-out.

Motion Weave does not currently support root motion for Melee Reactions. Disable Use Motion Weave on the reaction entry when the reaction needs root motion.

Overlay Layers

Higher Motion Weave layers compose after lower layers. A weapon-ready State on layer 10 and a Skill or Reaction State on layer 11 is a useful starting point.

Use the same layer when stopping a Motion Weave State. Do not use the same layer for the weapon-ready State and a Motion Weave-backed Skill or Reaction.

Melee Shields

Shield block, parry, and break responses use the same reaction entries as normal Melee reactions. After patching, a shield response can use a reaction entry with Use Motion Weave enabled. The selected State and layer are used for that shield response.
