Component Designer

Troubleshooting

Fix missing parameter types, sync issues, overrides, picker limitations, and scene references.

Troubleshooting

A New Parameter Type Is Missing

Run Game Creator > Component Designer > Scan Parameters Types, then wait for Unity to compile.

Sync Changes Is Disabled

The asset has no registered Hosts, or there are no design changes. Add the generated component to a GameObject.

A Component Shows an Override

A value was changed directly on the GameObject. Click Reset Overrides to restore the design value. After reset, future Sync Changes can update the component again.

A Component Does Not Appear in the Picker

The type may be abstract, editor-only, unsupported, or already present when it has a DisallowMultipleComponent restriction. Confirm that the component is public and compiled.

Scene References in a Component Design

You cannot drag a scene GameObject into a component field inside the Component Design asset. You also cannot drag a component from one design entry into a field on another entry.

To use a direct scene reference, open the generated component on the GameObject and edit the component in the Host inspector. There you can drag scene GameObjects and component references normally.

For Game Creator 2 instructions and components that support the property system, parameters are recommended instead. Add a matching parameter to the Component Design and set the value in the Host's Parameters list. This avoids making the component an override and lets every GameObject use its own reference.
