Full Body Awareness Controller

Troubleshooting

Fix common setup, head, shadow, footstep, reload and demo issues.

Troubleshooting

The Camera Clips Through Walls, Objects or the Body

  1. Set the Main Camera's Near Clip Plane to 0.01. Unity's default of 0.3 cuts away everything close to the camera.
  2. Check the layer of the object. It must be in the rig's Eye > Wall Layers, or the camera is not kept out of it.
  3. While traversing, raise Traversal > Limb Clearance if an arm or a leg still fills the view.

The Body Does Not Follow the View

Check that the Character uses the Full Body Awareness Player and Rotation units, and that the Shot Camera uses the Full Body Awareness shot type and is the Main Shot. Run Setup Selected Character and Setup Selected Shot Camera to fix both.

The Head Blocks the View

Check the rig's Head mode. With Shadows Only, the head renderers must be listed in Renderers. Use Head Splitter to cut the head off a single mesh.

There Is No Head in the Shadow

Turn on the Shadow Body. It keeps the head in the shadow while Scale Head Bone hides it from the camera. You can also use Shadows Only with a head cut by Head Splitter.

The Head Turns Away From the View

Disable Look To and Aim Towards on the player.

The Feet Slide or Fight the Steps

Place Align Feet with Ground above Turn In Place in the IK list. If you use a Motion Weave state while standing, keep its leg body parts at 0 weight.

The Chest Breathes Twice

Remove Game Creator's Breathing rig and keep this package's Breathing rig.

The Bob Is Out of Sync With the Footsteps

Check that the Character's Footsteps section has feet and a detector, like Fulcrum Plane, and that Sync To Footsteps is on in the rig's Locomotion section. Without footstep detection, change Step Length.

The Weapon Snaps Back at the End of a Reload

The reload animation pops at its very end, and during reloads the hands follow the animation exactly. This often comes from a layered state, like a Motion Weave state, started in the Reload's On Start and stopped in On Finish with a short transition. Give that stop a transition at least as long as the Reload's Transition Out, or stop it earlier in the reload. The rig's Reload Blend Out also eases the hands back to the hold pose.

The Shadow of an Item Is Missing or Wrong

Check the Shadow section's live status in Play Mode. Each copied renderer should follow a hand bone, like on RightHand. If an item is listed in Exclude, it casts its own shadow.

A Held Item Has No Procedural Motion

The item has no profile and the rig has no Default Profile. Assign a Held Item Profile to the Held Item, or set the rig's Default Profile.

A Prop Is Not Treated as a Held Item

Props that are not Shooter or Melee weapons need a Held Item component, and must be under a hand bone.

Decals Float in the Air

Add Stick To Surface to the decal of the impact effect. Check that its Layers include the surfaces you shoot.

Look At or Facing Instructions Do Nothing

The Full Body Awareness Rotation unit ignores facing layers, because the view drives the body. Use the Look At and Set Look Direction instructions of this package.

The Example Prefabs Are Broken

Install Game Creator 2's example assets from Game Creator > Install... before installing an example: Shooter > Examples for the Shooter examples, Melee > Examples for the Melee examples, and Game Creator > Examples for the Character Example, the Combined Example and the Shooter examples. Then install the example again from the Installer.
