Tuning Guide

Common changes, grouped by what you want to fix or achieve.

Turn In Place

You seeTry
Quick spins look like many hurried stepsLower Spin Angle or Spin Speed so the body spins sooner.
Steps feel too eager or too lazyChange Turn Threshold. Lower means more frequent, smaller steps. Also try Step Duration.
Feet look stiff during turnsRaise Ball Pivot and Foot Roll. Lower them if the feet look loose.
Steps look floatyLower Step Height and Hip Dip.

Held Item in View

You seeTry
The item moves on screen when looking up or downTurn on Lock To View in Placement In View, and in Lower When Sprinting.
Arms go through the stomach or chest when looking downKeep Placement In View's Look Pitch on Follow Torso. The rig's Body Clearance pushes the arms out. Raise Body Radius for bulky characters.
Hip fire arms clip into the body when looking downKeep Hip View Lock at 0 and lower Hip Max Down.
Item too low or too far in hip fireChange Hip Position. For example (0.03, 0.04, 0.06) brings it up and forward.
Item off to the side, or centered when you do not want itSee Where the Item Sits in View on the Held Items page.
Sight off center while aimingCheck the Shooter Scope Position or the Held Item Eye Point forward axis. Aim Offset nudges it.
Hands slide off the weapon when looking straight up through a scopeLower Aim Distance a little.
Only the forearms lower when sprintingKeep Elbow Follow Item Tilt at 0. Use more Lowered Position and less Lowered Rotation pitch.

Steadiness

You wantTry
Less bounce of the item while runningLower Animated Hand Motion and raise Stabilization Time.
Less swing of the chest, shoulders and forearmsRaise Upper Body Stabilization.
Less camera bounceRaise Vertical Stabilization and Horizontal Stabilization, and lower Horizontal Follow.
Some sight sway while aimingSet Aim Hand Motion to 0.3 to 0.5.
The item to reach its pose faster after equippingRaise Equip Catch Up Time if your equip animations are long.

The steadiest setup, with no head or arm bob:

  • Camera Shot: Head Bob off.
  • Rig > Eye: Vertical Stabilization 0.6, Horizontal Stabilization 0.5, Horizontal Follow 0.5.
  • Rig > Arms: Animated Hand Motion 0, Stabilization Time 0.8, Upper Body Stabilization 1.
  • Untick Movement Bob in the profile.

No Head Bob

Follow these steps for a camera with no bob at all.

  1. Camera Shot > Head Bob: turn Head Bob off. This removes the bob the camera adds on each step.
  2. Rig > Eye: set Horizontal Follow to 0. The camera no longer follows the head's sideways sway.
  3. Rig > Eye: set Vertical Stabilization to 0.8. This smooths out the up and down bounce of the walk and run animations.
  4. Camera Shot > Strafe Roll: turn Strafe Roll Enabled off, if you don't want the camera to roll when moving sideways.
  5. Camera Shot > Landing: turn Landing Enabled off, if you don't want the dip when landing.

For a steady held item too:

  1. Rig > Arms: set Animated Hand Motion to 0, Stabilization Time to 0.8 and Upper Body Stabilization to 1.
  2. Untick Movement Bob in the Held Item Profile.

A high Vertical Stabilization also makes the camera slower to follow crouching and vaulting. If that feels slow, lower it to 0.5.

Feel

You wantTry
A heavier feelRaise Look Sway's Rotation and Position and lower its Frequency to about 4.
A snappier, arcade feelLower Look Sway and Inertia, and raise Recoil Kick's Frequency.
A heavy weapon kickSet Recoil Kick's Recovery Time to 0.4 to 0.8.
No bobbing at allTurn off Head Bob on the camera, and untick Movement Bob in the profile.
